Edward Violahands
Hello! I am a violist, music teacher and composer/songwriter who lives in Portland, OR.
Mercury Shadow began their musical training via the Suzuki Violin Method, eventually discovering viola. They briefly studied with Karen Ritscher at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and with Ferenc Csezko at the University of Idaho.
Shadow has served as Principal Violist of the Washington Idaho Symphony and played in the Walla Walla and Yakima Symphonies. They have performed in several Classical Revolution productions and have also played with ARCO PDX. Shadow has performed new, local music with Cult of Orpheus and Cascadia Composers; they also appear on recording by Cult of Orpheus. They can also be heard on albums by Three for Silver and Macaulay Balkan.
Shadow has honed their collaborative and compositional skills by writing parts with various artists, as can be heard on the albums they appeared on with Black Tape for a Blue Girl. They enjoy writing classical chamber music and solo arrangements. They released their first solo single, “Rebuilding Me from the Pieces of Myself,” in early 2022.
